The situation:
Ancient Shipbrokers is a fine old Victorian house built in 1841. It overlooks Pentewan Harbour and is only 250m from the long sandy beach, which stretches almost a kilometre in length. Facing due south, we get the sun all day long and offer a private garden for guests, shown below, which is sheltered from sea breezes by mature shrubs. We are very happy for you to sit in the garden with books, newspapers and a bottle of wine purchased elsewhere. We are not licensed! The house is decorated in Victorian style, with bold colours, and is furnished with antique furniture, giving a comfortable and relaxing welcome.

The Location:
Ideally positioned only two miles from The Lost Gardens of Heligan and eight miles from the Eden Project, Pentewan is an historic village. For 50 years our house was the home of the Shipbroker who traded the cargoes of the Tall Ships, which tied -up along the harbour walls. The inlet is now freshwater and home to a family of swans, a multitude of ducks, and other wildlife.
The Ship Inn in Pentewan provides a good range of pub grub and a well-attended quiz on a Saturday night. We have a Post Office, and shop at the Mill Garage. An excellent restaurant named the Old School House specialises in local fish, locally farmed meat and vegetables, and should not be missed. Within 3 miles, the Polgooth Inn and the Kingswood Restaurant are also good eating-places .A friendly Tea Room is located in the Village Square.

Public transport is available from Pentewan Bus Shelter on a route, which travels between Mevagissey and Fowey, taking in Heligan Gardens and a connection to St Austell Railway station where connections are available to Eden and the rest of Cornwall!
